Since 2010, Liverpool City Region has seen rail passenger numbers rocket. Liverpool Lime Street alone welcomes over 14.8 million passengers every year (up by 27% since 2010).

Options currently being explored for Liverpool include new and upgraded rapid rail lines to connect the city with both the HS2 mainline to the Midlands and London and the HS2 spur line to the centre of Manchester via the city’s airport.
